Daughter, Enjoying Her Womanhood

Enjoying her womanhood, she is fresh,

eager for music, eager to absorb

anything, everything, a keen-ness

we cower to observe.

She is wrapped, securely in herself,

she is shuttered, aloof,

riding her own

unique, light-dazzled wave

explosive with oxygen.

Conflict feeds her vitality.

A household's clash and tumble

excites her teenage electric.

Her voltage sizzles and cracks

blackening the air.

Enjoying her womanhood, she draws

colour toward her, her body

primed white with acrylic

eager for paint. Brushes

are always to hand, she dips

and dips again, lavishing red

and blue, a rainbow's delirium.

Happily love keeps us besotted.

Love is a shield; smiling

we shelter from

the sparks and the splashes.
